Larian Bomba 2014 - 10K

This would be my 3rd official registered race for the year and my 3rd year consecutive running this event. Why is that I like this race so much? Its a limited medal race of which for this year, in the category I am running which is the Junior Veteran (40-49), there are only medals for the first 120 finishers.

Not many LYN runners participated in the race. Sebastian and Poo Fen signed up for this race too. As usual, some Wefie shot as we are waiting to be flagged off.

With Sebastian and Pooi Fen
The race was flagged off at about 10 minutes late due to the late arrival of the VIP. This is a common scene in Malaysia. I don't think I ever ran this 10k route before in this vicinity. They were little slop to climb and KM 6 and 9, especially KM 9 I found it rather challenging as its towards the last stretch and I have used up all my energy.

Bumped into Darren Wu (my neighbour, a young boy whom I have brought him to run with me in a few races) where he was limping towards the last stretch along Jalan Parlimen. He mentioned that his left thigh (just above the knee) is aching and have been walking the last 3km. I said to him continue to walk as there is another around 800m to go. I continued my run towards the finishing line and finished 55th/120 of the limited medal.

Overall, I was pretty satisfied with this run. I vowed to continue to join this race as long as I am still running.

Milo Breakfast Day Run 2014

Officially, this was my 2nd "race" for 2014 which was held on 20 April 2014. It was a Family Fun Run. First time running with the whole family ever since I ventured into running.

This is a yearly event which said to have attracted 20,000 people in 2014's edition. Registration was quickly filled up as the competitive run (7km instead of 8km as advertised) was only RM 20. Unlikely you can find such a cheap race in Klang Valley that has event Tee and finisher medal. As for the family run run category, it cost RM40 with 4 event tee minus the finisher tee.

As usual, most of the race in Putrajaya will start from Precinct 3, right in front of the Palace of Justice. I brought along Darren Wu, who live nearby our place and hangs out with my eldest son.

It as more of a walk rather than run for my youngest son. He was complaining very tiring for the 3km route. Darren did pretty well and finished 19/30 in the junior category (13-18 years old) with a prize.

Darren Wu with JJ Lim (my eldest son)
Good start for the Lim family. Hope to have more races like this in the Klang Valley

1st Race in 2014 - Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon

Just noted that I have not been writing anything since December 2012.

As the title goes, SCHKM 2014 where I traveled to Hong Kong with my wife and the youngest boy. Also it was my maiden flight on Malaysia Airlines A380 on flight MH72. I was on the same flight with Alvin Yap and wife, Dannie Choong and Carrie, CK Chong and partner and also Wayne Way.

Touched down at about 1:00pm and supposedly to meet up with Lionel Lee but he left with Dannie upon bumping into him. Proceeded straight to Hostel and checked in. Nothing to shout about as its a budget stay of HK$500 a night.

KG Garden Guest House, TST
After checking in, went over to Victoria Park for the REPC. My bib was no where to be located and declared lost and a new one was immediately printed for me, though it was a 45 minutes wait. There was nothing much left at the collection place as its the final hour for collection.

Shortly when I met up with Winnie Wong, a local HK L&F colleague to pick up my Company running tee, only got to know that they have actually collected my running kits on behalf and that was why my bib was no way to be located.

Fast forward to next morning. Woke up at 4:30am as we agreed to meet up at 5:00am to deposit our luggage. Starting line was about 200m away from where I am staying.

It was a cold morning, temperature was around 9C during the start time. It was not a good run for me. Really underestimated the weather as both my hand and fingers were numb up to about km 30. In between, my shoe lace loosen 3 times and only the 3rd time I managed to tie it properly as my fingers were not under my control because of the cold. Cannot remember much about the route, just that passed at least 3 bridges and the west harbour to cross over to HK Island towards the last few km.

Cramp strikes again from km 28 onward, where almost every alternate medic station I would apply the analgesic lotion, hopefully can do away the cramp and both my quadriceps. However, it was not really helping. Almost walked through the whole Western Harbour which is about 2km long. Finally crossed the finishing line at 5:33:05 which I had high hope of finishing this run at 4:45 initially.

After crossing the finishing line and upon collected my dry clothing, bumped into KK Yum and Evelyn Ang, as usual cannot escape from camwhoring. However, the usual crowd like YK and K1 already left the event place as the weather was not friendly to stay any longer.

From there I crossed over to Regal Hotel which as about 400m away where L&F HK had a ballroom for all its employees. Food and drinks were served. Additional goody bag was given to all participated employees.
